Today begins a topic that I’ll be covering off and on over the next month or so, to present 25 Reasons to have a look at a software program called Make The Cut! These reasons are basically features that are either not present in KNK Studio OR work a lot more easily in MTC compared to KNK. While this is mostly targeted towards those who are already using KNK Studio, the information provided, along with free videos, could also benefit anyone who is interested in MTC or just now learning to use it.
So, time to get started! Note that these 25 items are not in any particular order… but will be grouped into topic areas, such today… three reasons all related to text.
Reason #1: In MTC, you can open up and use a TTF font that is not already installed in Windows.
KNK owners know that to temporarily install a font, you need to first temporarily install it in Windows, using any of several methods, but then the font must also be installed into KNK Studio separately. In MTC, you can click on a button and then browse any folder on your computer to locate a font to import into the font menu and then use it while you have MTC open. Upon closing MTC, that font will be automatically uninstalled. Videos showing how this works in both programs are linked below, after I mention the next reason.
Reason #2: In MTC, your typed text doesn’t have to be changed in any way before saving the file and sharing with someone else.
In KNK Studio, if you forget to convert your text to a graphic, then someone else opening that file will not be able to view the text that you originally created unless they happen to have the exact same font installed.
To see the steps required in these two programs to accomplish the same thing, watch these videos:

Temporarily Installing Fonts in MTC
Reason #3: In MTC you can easily increase the preview image sizes of dingbat fonts whereas in KNK Studio, the image sizes are fixed in the Character Picker function. The best way to fully understand this difference is to watch the two videos. I really like being able to clearly see each image before selecting.

More reasons and more videos to come in the near future! Post if you have questions. And note that I sell Make The Cut! at this link: Make The Cut! Software
Yes you can! The stipulation is that you only have it opened on one computer at a time… easy thing to comply with! : )
Sandy, can MTC be put on multiple computers or does it work like KNK Studio? I have three computers that I would love to have the software on: one that is connected to my MAXX, my desktop and my notebook that Itake everywhere that I would love to design things on the go but can’t put the KNK Studio on because i’m out of licenses. Would love more versatility. Thanks for ALL you do for your customers!!!! you are priceless!
Kylee, I’m the worst when it comes to “!!!!!” lol You can download the trial and then see how you like it before buying. It will put a cut a big X through the middle of your design but otherwise you can play with all of the other features. I’ll send you the link.
i’m thinking of getting this software as it appears it is much more friendlier just seeing it for the fonts! i have collected over 15,000 fonts because i love fonts!! No, don’t worry, they all are not installed!
Sandy, as usual, i want to take a thumb drive to your brain … you are incredible! Thanks for making this so much easier for us to understand your discoveries!
(i know i use the !! too much – but the topic of KNK is very exciting to me – and i try to share this with everyone i know)
Hi Mona, Since you have experience with MTC, be sure to let me know if I’m missing anything… or if I do something in MTC that can be done in a faster way. : )
Cece, I’m eager to make more! I couldn’t come up with where to get started until it occurred to me that I was discovering these various things that were just really cool in MTC compared to how I was doing things in KNK Studio. I was so eager to share these discoveries that I started listing them and once I had 25 on the list, I felt I had a great blog idea and that making videos to illustrate these things would also be helpful to those learning the software.
Karen, you can do that. However, your Element was one of the first released, as I recall, and you may need to purchase the serial and pink converter cables to be able to get MTC to cut to your Element. This is something we can test using the trial version of MTC first so that you’ll know for sure. Email me privately and maybe we can set up a time to test this via phone and VNC.
Caz, you’re welcome… and many more to come! I actually found this one guide to be very beneficial. It’s easy to follow and really helped me get started understanding many of the functions:

Sandy, thank you so much for delving in to MTC. I have used MTC for a couple years and know there is so much that I still don’t know. But with you on the job and sharing these videos, I know I will discover amazing new things! Thanks again!
The comment above is from Cece! LOL
Sandy, as always I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! I really like all
of the neat things that can be done with MTC. Can’t
wait to see more videos!
So after watching these, I want Make the Cut already. If I put it on my 64bit Windows 7 laptop, will it eliminate the need for KNK Studio and the dongle to cut to my Element? That would be sooooo cool.
Thanks Sandy, new to MTC and still trying to work it out… your work on this videos is much appreciated!
Wow, Shelly! Thank you so much! I feel blessed to be able to get to know such kind and creative cutter owners like you and try to help you all make your images come to life.
Sandy, you are a wealth of information. Thank you so much for all the knowledge you share with us and the wonderful videos to walk us through it. Love it and you! 🙂
Jnett, Thanks! I will definitely post each time I have a new post. You can also subscribe under the About Me tab at the top… but again, not necessary if you’re reading the Yahoo groups.
Barbie… Thanks! I’m working on learning MTC! I figured that if I just start making videos then I’ll stumble upon things! Like today, when making the second MTC video, I realized I could scroll my middle mouse button and see all of the fonts and then also scroll the same button to zoom in on the dingbat images! That was a cool discovery! I also didn’t realize that once you typed text you no longer needed the font installed! I was all prepared to weld it to something or do a Break and I found out that nothing has to be done! Now that is a good thing!
Great job! It’s amazing how much knowledge one person can have, but keep sharing so I can keep learning!
Loved the videos. Thanks so much for making these. Be sure to let us know each time you do more. I will be watching them all for sure as I’m new to MTC.
