This is a video I should have made a year ago! Why I didn’t, I have NO idea… sure would have helped customers AND made my life a little easier as well! 🙂
It’s a quick video that covers the following:
1. How to look up your COM port assignment
2. How to set that COM port assignment in KNK Studio
3. How to change your COM port assignment:
Setting Up COM Port on an XP Computer
Setting Up COM Port on a Windows 7 Computer
Let me know if you have questions!
Good news! You’re welcome!
That did the trick! Thank you SO much! 🙂
Try again… I guess I changed the name of the video from COMPort.wmv to ComPort.wmv at some point. Anyhow, you will need to force the COM Port to a number less than 10. Even if Device Manager tells you that you can’t, just do it anyhow. You aren’t using all of the ones from 1 to 10 unless you happen to have 10 USB peripherals currently hooked up to your laptop!
So, force it to be, say Com 5 or whatever and then set it in the software and you should be fine. If not, just email me.
The link to the video does not appear to be active any longer. I am having a terrible time trying to establish communication between my KnK and my laptop. I’m not exactly illiterate when it comes to computers. I installed the KnK Studio software and driver. A new COM port appeared that says “USB Serial Port (COM12)”. It does not have “CH340” as noted in the manual, however. Originally, I was getting a “Restricted Port” error when I attempted to cut. I re-installed the driver. No longer getting any error messages, but nothing is happening either. Any ideas?
I am not having problems just was learning how to find the port and all. I have other drivers just not the Klic N Kut and wanted to make sure all was ok with it. I will leave it as it is working fine and do not want to mess it up when it is working.
Thanks again
Sheryl,
Sheryl, if your only choice is “Klic-N-Kut Element”, that’s fine, too! Mine installation is from Day One… and I show other drivers in my drop-down list. Are you having any problems with communication between your computer and your KNK? If not, then you’re fine. Just remember this video in case you ever need to reinstall the software. It may come in handy then.

Oh, Jun Bug… you know you’re rockin’est of us all! 🙂
